Lovelady's Ethics by Lindsey - April 2013 Scholarship Essay
My favorite class that I have ever taken was my Ethics class, with Mr. Lovelady. My teacher made sure to point out at the very beginning of the semester that he was not there to change our minds or to make us more ethical, but to help us be able to work through issues in our lives when they come up. He provided us with many different view points, whether from a religious stand point or from a secular viewpoint. He showed us that there was never really a right answer, but people are never ethically correct (well all of the time). Each person comes from a different perspective, each human has a different worldview, so every choice that we make will be different than the last.. or at least thought out differently with different logic. It was a very intriguing class and by far my favorite. He expanded our selfish shells and helped us to be able to think in a more logical way, even if we weren't the smartest of students haha. Overall, I don't believe that we left the class "more ethical" than how we came in, but I do believe that we will better be able to understand the consequences for the decisions we make throughout life. It was a very challeging class and it made us really stretch our thinking, but I believe it will benefit each of the students in that class for the rest of our lives.
