Coincidental Birthday by Lindsey - October 2017 Scholarship Essay

If I could have dinner with any U.S. President, I would choose, Martin van Buren. I do not really know what all he did as President, because I am not really into politics or history in general. But I would still like to have dinner with him so I could talk with him about his birthday. It seems like a change thing to talk about and he would probably think that I was some obsessed fan that knows everything about him. However, he was born on December 5, 1782. I also happen to have the same birth date, just many years later. I think that it would be fascinating to meet someone that has the same birthday that I do. I do not personally know anybody that does.
Martin van Buren also just seems like a unique person, who could probably tell me what he thinks of the world today, and what type of government we created since he left the White House. He also portrays the sophistication, of the kind of gentlemen, that I would prefer to be around, or seen with. While on this dinner “date” with Mr. Buren, I would also ask him what it was like to rule over an entire country, and how he managed to do it. I would ask him quite a bit about politics and hopefully he would be able to answer all of my questions. However, the main reason that I would like to have dinner with Martin van Buren is because we share the same birth date.
