North Carolina by Lindsey - April 2016 Scholarship Essay

This is a question that is often asked of upperclassmen and I have found myself asked multiple times. I always give the same advice, the same advice my school gives. My advice to younger students would be to do your homework on time, not to procrastinate and show up to class.
One of the most important aspects of succeeding academically is to turn in assignments in a timely fashion. Late assignments, in almost every class, will results in point reductions which would have never happened otherwise. Once one assignment is pushed to the side, they begin piling up and before a student knows it they are three weeks behind trying desperately to catch up which is a nearly impossible task.
Procrastination is yet another mistake to avoid. Procrastinating plays into homework as well. Procrastination is an issue I have always had problems with. If I were to be given the whole semester to do an assignment I would wait until the last week. This is a very dangerous habit and has left me stressed out on many occasions. Doing homework ahead of time, on the other hand, has only led to positive emotions and results.
Lastly, turning up to class is an important part of succeeding. Absences can be negative in both a school and career path. Turning up to receive information is paramount. Missing days, while fun, can throw a student behind and lead to them failing their tests. Catching up is hard I have found and not missing, unless absolutely necessary, should be a student’s goal.
