College Here I Come! by Lindsay - August 2024 Scholarship Essay

Creating a goal is something that I have always struggled with making. Seeing how my classmates already decided what they wanted to do after graduating High School is terrifying. I feel happy that many of them want to continue their education while I try to figure out if I’m even capable of continuing my education. However, as I’m entering my last year in High School and deciding my path for the future, I’ve decided not to stand around in fear. I need to start caring for myself, my future, and my future career as a graphic designer.

With this new mindset, I set my next goal to continue my education by getting into college. This will be my next big educational goal as I plan on getting a bachelor’s degree by majoring in Graphic design or design-related. I would want to pursue graphic design in college because I love the creative freedom it gives me. I can create business cards for a future entrepreneur, make banners for communities, or heat press shirts for charities. I see myself having the opportunity to have a career that makes me happy and allows me to help others. But, I understand the upcoming challenges I’ll face then as I have to get through the application process and financial aid, complete my last few high school classes, prepare to face the world of college.

I understand not knowing what I want and seeing how others are ahead. I not only entered design to design coloring books or cards, but also did it to help others create a voice for themselves. Which I can continue to do as I enter college with the needed financial aid I can get. So, college! Even if I might struggle financially against you, you won’t stop me from going and helping others find themselves in this world that changes every day. I’ll overcome the hardships that come with it and fulfill the promises I made to myself about pursuing what I love.
