How the Book of Mormon has impacted my life by Lily - October 2023 Scholarship Essay

My religion is a big part on my life. I'm a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and one of the scriptures we have is the Book of Mormon. It teaches the same principles and doctrine of the Bible, but it has more stories of the people in the Americas and how they were impacted by Christ's teachings. The Book of Mormon has impacted my life in so many ways. It's helped me create better relationships, improve myself and inspired me to be better to myself and others.

One of the main lessons taught that I resonate with is loving everyone and forgiveness. In todays world, many people hold grudges or have prejudices against certain groups of people. Even in my church, I know that a lot of people will judge other groups of people who don't live the same way we do. But in the Book of Mormon, it teaches that even though others live different lives than us and have different beliefs, we should still be kind to them. I've really tried to apply that into my life, as I believe that we shouldn't treat others differently because of their choices in life.

The Book of Mormon has also helped me to find peace in my life. During the hardest times in my life, the Book of Mormon has been a symbol and promise of rest and good things ahead. One example of this is when I was having a difficult time with friends, I felt broken and like I wasn't good enough. But when I was reading the Book of Mormon, it gave me hope that everything would be alright. One of my favorite parts of the Book of Mormon is at the very beginning, where Lehi takes his family away from Jerusalem and towards the promised land. Even though it was hard for him, and many people told him that he was crazy, he continued forward with faith, and in the end was rewarded. Because of that story, I knew that no matter how hard the trial was that I was going through was, if I kept going with a sense of hope for the future, it would turn out all right.

The story behind the Book of Mormon has also impacted me in different ways. It was translated by Joseph Smith, the first prophet of the restored Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Just to get the book translated, he went through many hardships, was tormented and told he was crazy. Yet he kept going. It's inspiring, and teaches the lesson to fight for your beliefs. Another reason the Book of Mormon has impacted my life from the translation is my family. Almost all of my ancestors came from England to America because of the Book of Mormon and its teachings. They believed in the church and gospel so much they were willing to sacrifice anything to come to America and be with the main body of Saints. Knowing the dedication and faith my ancestors had, it makes me want to do better and strive to live up to their example in helping others. Furthermore, I probably wouldn't be where I am today, in the state I live in or the family I have, without the Book of Mormon and the impact it's had on my family.

In conclusion, the Book of Mormon has impacted my life in many ways. It's helped me to be a better person and build my beliefs. Its also been impactful to where I am today, through the impact it's had on my ancestors. The Book of Mormon is one of the best books I've read (and I've read a lot) and its the one that has had the most impact on my life.
