If I Were a College Professor by Lillian - August 2017 Scholarship Essay
If I were a college professor and could teach any subject, I would choose to teach Military History. This may come across as strange when you consider that I am planning on attending college to major in forensics and pursue a career in Criminal justice and Crime scene investigation. However I feel that history is one of the most important subjects to be educated on.
Knowing the history of the country and the people who have fought for your country is important to me and I feel as though students should be more educated on the subject matter. My personal background is very military involved. There is a long chain of military personnel in my family tree, I was born overseas on a military base, I have watched countless amounts of grandparents, uncles, cousins, and siblings volunteer their lives and services to fight for the United States of America.
Knowing the strong background I have with the military, I feel that having an education on the subject matter is important to understand what our country is founded on and what these soldiers of all backgrounds have and continue to give up to give us the freedom, and safety that is the “American dream”.
I feel as though pursuing a career and taking the time and effort to educate students of all ages on all aspects of the military would be an amazing opportunity, which is why if I had the chance to teach any subject as a college professor, Military History would be what I chose.
