The elective that changed my future! by Lilah - September 2017 Scholarship Essay

One elective that I have taken is Introduction to Health Sciences, this is one of the first electives that I took that actually impacted my education and what I am going to end up doing in my future. I am so lucky that my school offers this kind of class because it definitely helped me narrow down what I wanted to do in the medical field.

I went into this class thinking that I wanted to be a nurse, and throughout the class I learned of other jobs in the medical field that sounded more appealing to me. I also found out that there is way more to the medical field than most people think. I did change my mind several times about what I may want to do because we would learn about something that sounded cool and interesting. I also learned the amount of schooling that would be required for some of these careers that sounded interesting to me. I loved that we took a closer look at many different jobs not just one or a broad overview of the healthcare system. I did learn a lot from this class, and I would gladly recommend it to someone who is looking into the Healthcare field, and isn't sure exactly what they want to do.

I am also very thankful that with taking this class I get a credit put towards my education at the technical college that my school works with. I love this because it also gives me a jumpstart on college, especially when It allows me to take other classes that I am interested in and that I can get more college credits for while in high school. I do plan on attending Mid State Technical College the one that works with the school so that will be nice to already have a headstart when I get into college.

I think that it is important for all kids in highschool to get a good education and be provided with all of their options as far as knowing what they want to do when they get to college. I think courses like Intro to Health Science should try to be implemented in schools all over the country to help kids who may know the general area they want to study in the future, because this will definitely help them narrow it down to just a few that are their top choices. I learned so much from just this one semester long class that has changed my life in many ways, and is helping me get a upper hand on my schooling beyond high school, and for that I am beyond grateful!
