Brilliance In Essence-Thomas Jefferson by Lexie - October 2017 Scholarship Essay

When I thought about being able to talk to just one president I felt excited almost. What an honor it would be to get to ask questions to a former leader of our Country. In U.S History, Thomas Jefferson always caught my attention. Thomas Jefferson is considered the most brilliant president, was a leading figure in America's early development, and he purchased Louisiana Territory as well as being big on religious freedom. As you can see, Thomas Jefferson was a very accomplished polished president.
To be considered the most brilliant president is a very honorable accomplishment. In my own opinion to be president you must have some brilliance about you, so to me, all the presidents were very intelligent. Out of a large group of well accomplished intelligent men; to be the most brilliant says a lot about you. If I was face to face with Thomas Jefferson, I would desire to learn how to conduct myself with brilliance; to Learn just how such an accomplished person translates their brilliance to an everyday conversation.
Just as I desire to learn about his brilliance, I would like to see his point of view on our country at the time he was leading us. What was running through his head as he wrote the Declaration of Independence? Did he think about America's far future as he carefully wrote out the words? What was the atmosphere like? Did he feel tension or nerves? Was he confident in his position or did he feel someone else could do better?
As you may know, the Louisiana Purchase is the greatest land bargain in United States History. In order to make the greatest land bargain in United States History, you'd think that person was very well rounded especially as a president. However, Thomas Jefferson felt like a failure as a president. If I was having dinner with him I would ask him why he didn't consider himself valuable as a president when his list of accomplishments is very long?
Something else I would love to talk to Thomas Jefferson about was his view on religious freedom. He wrote the Virginia Statute for Religious Freedom. I could read all through what he wrote, and what he said, but to hear it myself would be absolutely amazing. To know how he felt, not just the watered down version expressed by others.
In the end, if I could have dinner with any president it would be Thomas Jefferson because I want to know more about why he felt like a failure, and how he made the greatest land purchase in history. As well as the other reasons I addressed in the essay. I could learn how to become a more well rounded polished person, and know so much more. By having dinner with a President, especially Thomas Jefferson, I could have a better understanding of many presidents mindsets. Considering Thomas Jefferson was considered the most brilliant President, and he had a long list of accomplishments, all while being humble I could learn about the views of other presidents.
