Teaching options by Lewi - August 2017 Scholarship Essay

I would love to teach a English course at the college level. I was a super shy kid, and only in the last few years have I discovered how much I enjoy teaching students how to present their thoughts and ideas. I’d love to show teens how to shape their message for the audience to understand and remember it, or ways to work through anxiety. Teaching English is great, for also the reason of British and American literature and non-fiction research, but I would teach anything to do with reading and writing. I actually like editing and grading as well, which is a plus when students turn in hundreds of pages of essays every month. The reasons why I would love to teach in college is: students are more “obedient”. Many of the students share a passion for the subject which allows access to a spectrum of mature conversations with them about the subject.
I have less chance of becoming bored of teaching my subjects as the concepts are somewhat advanced. I would like to teach and unorthodox method by providing life lessons that go along with what I’m teaching, that way even if a student doesn’t get a satisfactory grade, they will still retain a life lesson that can be helpful for them later in life.
