Courage and Commitment by Levi - December 2018 Scholarship Essay
Winning a Nobel Prize is such an incredible honor, as we all know, that nothing more than being top of your field, industry, or spirit can even crack a nomination. The history of this award has been decorated with figures recognized by nearly all not just in their own field, but in fields coinciding, and observing; and has been reserved for those who can truly call themselves some of the most creative, daring, and respected men and women society has witnessed. Several qualities prove themselves necessary for these people to win, and have been displayed through the years. However, there are two of the most important qualities an individual can have that will lead them to this incredible nomination: Courage, and Commitment.
Much like the Cowardly Lion, most of us aren't born with courage. Life presents opportunities where we display our willingness to leap into challenges and show the courage we find and begin to possess on a daily basis. Whether it's asking a crush on a date, standing up to a bully on a playground, or something as big as questioning the government on an idea, or protocol they've used for quite some time, many of us are required, and willing to find the courage within ourselves to do the right thing, and be the best person we can be. Courage is a trait found in many of us, and an idea, an aspect of our personality that recognizes when something is wrong and needs to be fixed, changed, or stood up to is an idea that many would believe needs to be present in a Nobel Prize candidate.
Another trait that would prove necessary in my Nobel Prize candidate would be commitment. We've all started products, papers, assignments, journeys that have needed constant attention, all to just fizzle out and become a failed work. Now, obviously, failure is a part of life and something most of us realize we just have to deal with. Rejection will always be an aspect of the world around us, although some know how to work past it. Many find the will to be resilient, and that will comes from dedication and commitment to whatever you're doing. Commitment cannot be overlooked, because it's a basic principle of a lifestyle and career. Without commitment, most of us would get lost in the shuffle, never finding our true calling, and not staying with something that could possibly lead to greatness. Commitment is at the core of our ideals as active members of society in this world, and it's also something I would hope to be able to find in a Nobel Prize candidate.
