Technology in the Classroom by Leslie - July 2022 Scholarship Essay

The world is becoming more advanced every day. Whether it be the release of a new iPhone, the latest and greatest self driving car, or simply an update on your smart watch, technology is constantly changing. Not only is it changing, but it also drives the world that we live in. There is not a day that goes by where your day isn't affected by some form of technology. Despite the fact the world is run on this power, there are certain industries that are not as technology driven as others. One of these such industries is education.
While some schools are able to provide their students with laptops and other devices, there are areas where this luxury can not be afforded. Prominent universities with large budgets are able to provide their members with state of the art labs and access to the most up to date resources. Lesser known universities and early education facilities (K-12 schools) on the other hand, are limited with their budgets and unable to provide such tools. Within the next 10 years, I hope to see the integration of technology into all schools around the country regardless of size or budget.
With technology, things that were once thought to be impossible are now just a touch away. Virtual reality can allow students to place themselves back in Ancient Greece and learn about their culture and history in a new and immersive way. Video services can be used to connect students to native speakers of any language to ask questions their teacher's may not be able to answer. Most recently, technology has been used around the country to allow students to work from home during the COVID-19 pandemic. Allowing access to technology at an early age not only helps with education, but also prepares students for a world that is constantly evolving. Students that are able to work with and learn from technology while growing up are more likely to thrive when they enter the workforce and are required to use devices every day.
By integrating technology into the education system, students are more educated and prepared to enter society. It is my hope that within the next 10 years, technology will be more accessible to all students, regardless of where they attend school. If this goal is achieved, our society will become more advanced and better prepared for the ever changing future.
