Time Management, Prioritization, and Success: The Real Benefits of College by Leguejou - October 2024 Scholarship Essay

The greatest benefits of a college degree are not just academic knowledge, but also essential life skills required for success. In my first year at college in the 2024-2025 academic year, I quickly learned important skills like managing time, setting priorities, and being adaptable as I balanced my studies, a part-time job, and other responsibilities. These skills are equally important compared to the academic intelligence I am obtaining.

Being a Personal Digital Shopper at Walmart has been a significant aspect of my life in the past year. In this position, my main responsibility is helping customers place their orders online and making sure they have a smooth shopping process. The position demands quick multitasking, adapting to customer needs swiftly, and solving problems effectively while under pressure. This situation has not just given me money but also improved my skills in customer service and digital commerce—qualities that will be useful in any future job.

Besides working at Walmart, I also provide online tutoring for high schoolers with Mathnasium. Tutoring lets me impart my knowledge and create a positive learning space for young learners. Assisting these students in achieving academic success has provided me with a profound sense of satisfaction. It enhances my ability to communicate and lead by assisting students with their lessons and motivating them to conquer obstacles.

Juggling these two jobs alongside a rigorous college schedule is showing me the significance of time management. Each day, I must make a priority list of my academic tasks, work hours, and tutoring appointments. Juggling multiple responsibilities may not be simple, but it will prepare me for any career path I choose by enhancing my ability to manage various tasks.

Thus, a college education extends beyond just reading and taking tests. It educates you.
