Endless Possibilities, One Goal by Lee'Shae - June 2017 Scholarship Essay

Even as a six-year-old, I had big aspirations. I wanted to be everything and anything. A movie star, a doctor, a lawyer, a police officer, and a superstar celebrity to name a few. It wasn't until I became seven that I really zeroed in on what I wanted to be, a Supreme Court Justice. Now as a 16-year-old, I am just as confused as I was when I was six. Well, not confused, but growing up, I have been exposed to so many different occupations and passions, that I have more future job possibilities. Throughout elementary school and middle school, I've stuck with the same future ambition I've had since I was seven.
Now in high school, with my future approaching fast, I've realized that you can do more than a single job your whole life and I can truly make a difference through my work. I want to help people when I'm older and there are so many ways to do that. I'm unsure if I want to continue striving to be a Supreme Court Justice or pursue something else, like music.
I've been singing since the age of six and I love it. From performing to singing with the artists of the songs playing on my phone and dancing along, nothing makes me happier. Singing and music, in general, have been a large part of my life, but it's very hard to get discovered and be successful, not impossible though. If being a Supreme Court Justice is the end goal, there are so many steps to get there, including having a career in law to familiarize myself with the American justice system. I could be a lawyer, judge, police officer, paralegal, and more. I could be a law librarian if I really wanted to. There are so many options out there just for an occupation in law. I've also considered being a teacher as, growing up, they've made such an impact on my life and I would love to inspire the younger generations and help them learn their true potential. Once again, I was inundated with other careers related to teaching. I could be a principal or a superintendent, just to start with. Though the future seems unclear, one thing has stuck with me through my childhood. I've been told you can do anything you put your mind to and I truly believe that. If I want to succeed, I will, no matter what I end up doing.
