In 10 years, I envision myself as a professional barber and community leader, running a barbershop that serves as both a business and a space for mentorship and connection. My goal is to create an environment where people feel seen, heard, and empowered, not just through a haircut, but by fostering meaningful relationships and building confidence.

My education in barbering is essential to this vision. Completing my associate degree will give me the technical skills and business knowledge needed to run a successful shop, create job opportunities, and contribute to my community. Returning to school as an older African American man has come with its challenges, but I’ve learned that it’s never too late to pursue your dreams. Despite the financial strain, I’m determined to succeed, and a scholarship would provide the support I need to focus on my studies and develop my craft.

In addition to providing excellent service, I want to mentor others, particularly those from underserved communities, showing them that it’s possible to build a meaningful career in the trades. Through my journey, I aim to inspire others to follow their passions, regardless of age or circumstance.

In 10 years, I hope to own a barbershop that not only provides great service but also strengthens the community. With the support of this scholarship, I’m confident I can turn my dream into reality and make a lasting impact.
