Thinking Outside The Box by Lee - October 2018 Scholarship Essay

Many people have said the term, "think outside of the box" but what does this really mean? Thinking outside the box could be used for many different situations, ranging from a fun game with your family that you're wanting to win, or being used for a marketing strategy for the next biggest trend. Sometimes in life you have to take a step back to take two steps forward; this is why thinking outside the box is such a commonly used phrase.
One might ask, "How do you think outside the box when you don't even know where to start?" It's simple, you just don't. The most successful people in the world don't get famous or wealthy instantly, they must try different things and see what works the best and what fits the best in their own situation. Think of it as a Maze, you may go one way at first, but you're going to almost always end up back where you started (unless you get really lucky!). All of this shows how thinking outside the box might not be easy, but finding the right path to your Maze will always end up with you coming out ahead and on top.
Without the world thinking outside the box, we wouldn't have most of the stuff we have today. Ranging from Technology, simple Algorithms, Formulas in Mathematics and other subjects, and even Nicolaus Copernicus's heliocentric theory. This should make us excited as a nation and as a world, and to make us want to put forth that effort our previous generations have put in to give us what we have today. At the end of your life, what do you want to be remembered for? Do you want to be remembered for being lazy and normal, or do you want to be remembered as being unique and giving to your community? If you chose the second choice, it all starts with, "Thinking outside the box".
So what does thinking outside the box mean to me? It means that I have to try my hardest every day and to not be like everyone else, but better. It means that even though I might do enough to get by, I don't wanna stop there. It means that even though I'm taking the harder path, I'm also reaping the most I can get. So the real question is, what does thinking outside the box mean to you?
