The changes I hope to see in education in the next ten years. by Leah - July 2022 Scholarship Essay

The changes I hope to see in education in the next ten years.

In the next ten years, the changes I hope to see in education is for standardized testing to not be an effective way to determine the abilities and skills of today’s students. These test do not justify what a student can comprehend or has learned, but instead it only reveals how well a student can do in a generic test. Standardized test where intended to ensure equal opportunity within the many students applying to colleges across the country although, these test are no longer the best way to measure a students knowledge or potential.
Students should not feel pressured about testing as this can cause them to become less likely to actually soak in the lesson being taught to them also, students should not feel that there intelligence is based off of a number such as a test score. These test reduce richness of human experience and students know that these test scores may affect their future, so they will do whatever they can to pass, including cheating and even taking performance drugs.
Standardized testing is creating an abundance of stress for these young students which can introduce them to possible mental health issues. Some students may do well with a certain level of stress meanwhile others may fold causing them to fail and feel defeated.
The most important change I hope to see for education in the next ten years is empathy and fairness for the students so they all feel equal and feel that they have the chance to succeed in life.
