Going to College at a Christian school by Lauryn - April 2024 Scholarship Essay
In my short 17 years of life I have experienced a lot of events that most people never experience in their lives. At the age of 11 I lost my Mother to health problems that she had gone through. I was devastated, but that happening to me at such a young age made me highly mature for my age. I had to learn to navigate through my teenage years without having a mother to guide me through it. It was rough, I had family and Mother figures in my life to help me thankfully. When my Mother died going to church and prayers from my Pastor and church helped me greatly as well. With God on my side I knew I could accomplish anything with him, so I kept fighting to make my Mother proud. Sadly my sophomore year of high school my world took an even darker turn. My older brother lost his battle with depression and took his own life. I was confused, hurt, and felt lonely. Growing up it was my Father, Mother, brother and me and now I only had my Dad with me and it was really hard. As I grow more in life I grow to understand why everything happens and that it all happens for a reason. It is God’s plan and I can’t change anything about it. All I can do is keep going on with life, which I do by being motivated to make my Mom and brother proud.
At Vanguard University I see myself being able to develop as a leader because it is who I am as a person. I have done three years of leadership and am highly involved in my school. Many people look up to leadership students because we do so much. I am also in cheer and cheerleaders are role models to the school because people look to us to represent what's right. I love being involved and making the community better as much as I can. I believe that I can also help Vanguard and be a great leader at the school if I attend. My goals and background fit into the school because I am a great leader and love to be a part of environments that strive to be better people in the world.
Some things that i’d hope to gain here as well are a good relationship with my academics and sports. My grades are high important when it comes to school. In the future I plan on either working in the medical field or in the psychology field. I am still young and this can still change for me. I also would appreciate being able to know that I will be able to get help with my classes if needed. I want to continue my future with cheer in college by either doing cheer or Stunt the Sport. Education is my main priority, but if I can have a great education and a great team that makes the choosing of a college decision easier.
Finally I just really want to grow my relationship with God. I grew up in a Baptist Church, but due to covid hitting my family stopped attending. I am currently working on my relationship with the Lord and would love to grow even closer with him. I believe I will be able to grow closer with him attending a Christian school.
