Blank Page by Lauren - January 2016 Scholarship Essay

My new years resolution is to do everything open minded and to try new things. My high school is located in South East Michigan and is about 90% white and easily 70% conservative. Growing up in this area, you are essentially told what to think and do. My goal is to enter college as a blank page.
I want to surround myself with new and exciting people who have different and unique ideas as opposed to being around people with the same ideas and personalities. I am so excited to have the opportunity to have a fresh start when I go to college. I am passionate about world and social issues and I can't wait to hear what other people think and feel. I am very interested in learning about new points of view. I am excited to join groups and make new friends. If I keep my resolution of being open minded and trying new things, making friends will come easily.
This will make me a better student because with many opinions and ideas, I can come to conclusions for myself. I will become a well rounded person as well as student. I am so excited to go to college and learn new and exciting things. My enthusiasm for differences and ideas are identical to my work ethic. I have never had anything handed to me and I am enthusiastic about doing well in school. I am excited for myself and the person I am going to become.
