Paving the Road to a Bright Future by Lauren - November 2013 Scholarship Essay

The public schools in my neighborhood did not offer much promise when searching for potential high schools. Many of the public schools did not offer much security on campus, and thus had trouble keeping peers at peace with one another. The curriculums offered were not as rigorous as I had hoped, and I worried about my odds about getting into prestigious colleges in the future. I thus decided to attend a private, same-sex high school.

Attending private school allowed me to break out of my self-conscious shell. I was taught to stand up for my thoughts, and to push myself beyond my safety zone. The painstaking curriculum made me realize how important and effective a great education can be for my future. Without a rigorous high school program, I would never have been prepared for the efforts needed to succeed in college. My devotion to my career as well as my strong work ethic was developed while attending high school. My practiced skills and habits allowed me to learn how to think critically and gain a better understanding of the professional world.
High school helped me develop into the motivated, intelligent young woman I am today. Although I will never stop learning, I was given a necessary jump-start to make my transition into college much easier.
