Show the Way by Lauren - March 2015 Scholarship Essay
John Maxwell once said, “A leader is one who knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way.” I think leadership skills are a major part of the basic foundation for a successful college experience and a successful post-graduate life. Without leadership skills, one cannot see areas of opportunity and seize them. These areas create wonderful opportunity for growth and prosperity, not only in a collegiate atmosphere, but in life as a whole.
For most students, college is the first time they will be living on their own. Everyone is thrown into a new world, and this is the time where leaders will rise. Having this leadership is extremely important. This leadership will give students the power to ask questions and be completely present during lectures. This may not seem like an important aspect of leadership, but if one student has a question, there are most likely more students wondering the exact same thing. Leadership gives students the confidence to ask questions. Being able to freely participate in lectures can help make or break a student’s ability to comprehend material in college.
There are many essential attributes necessary to succeed in college, and leadership is one of the most vital. Leadership allows students to look toward the future, and help others do the same.
