How Social Media by Lauren - March 2022 Scholarship Essay

Social Media has become a big part of everyday life, and because of this it only makes sense that it has also become a part of education and the way we learn. Social Media has impacted the way I learn in both good and bad ways.

Some good ways are access to cites specifically for studying and that we can find information extremely fast. When I was preparing for an AP test last year, I followed a YouTube channel that helped with review material and helpful tips for getting ready and taking the test. I’ve also been a part of social media group texts where an entire class has joined a text thread and if anyone has questions, they can ask it there and everyone helps answer it. There are also many pages where you can find tutors through social media or just pages that help encourage students to learn and do their best in school. Because of social media there are so many different places where students can go to learn in whatever way is best for them.

However, there are also some bad ways it has impacted learning. Like it can be a huge distraction. You could be on your phone looking up some information and you are bombarded with a million other things that can distract you, and then before you know it 30 minutes have passed, and you haven’t gotten anything done. Also, the quick access to all of the information has made it easier to cheat and plagiarize. And it can also be really hard to tell if the information you are getting is correct. There is a lot of misinformation out there and if you are going to use information especially in like a project or essay you have to be really careful with sources and if it is a credible source.

To conclude there are many advantages of social media on education, like the quick access and the many different types of information for students to find and learn, and disadvantages, like how it is easier to cheat, and you can always be sure if the information you are finding is accurate and from a credible source.
