Growing Student Academic Education Starts With A Great Teacher by Lauren - August 2016 Scholarship Essay
In high school, my favorite academic subject was math. As crazy as it sounds to some, it’s true. I had a wonderful teacher my senior year and she had such a passion for the subject as well as her students. She was always willing to stay late to help those that didn’t quite grasp the lesson. As one of her top students, I found myself helping to tutor friends that needed extra help. I would say I definitely learned the most from her, which also helped me in other subjects throughout high school. She not only helped me grow as a student, but her teaching methods and compassion have helped me in many aspects of my life.
It’s made me look at money and expenses differently. Before her class, I would spend money as quickly as I got it. After her class, I realized the importance of saving to reach my goal of buying a new car, which I did on my own.
Her teachings have carried over into my life today because I spend money more wisely and have become more frugal. Being a family of 5, grocery shopping is a huge expense; however, I’m able to look at quantity and price to determine the best value. Doesn’t sound like much, but every penny counts.
I wish everyone could have a teacher like her, but she was one in a million. I always enjoyed math, but she made learning fun and easy. Her style of teaching helped me grow as a student and continues to grow into the adult I am today.
