The Subject That Inspired Me by Lauren - July 2016 Scholarship Essay
School provides many different classes meant to help a student learn and develop. I have only just recently finished my sophomore year of high school, but one subject test it out to me since I first started learning about it. The subject it is help me grow as a student is biology.
When I first started taking the class I was instantly drawn in. I was just a freshman, trying to adjust to a new learning environment and more challenging classes. Well I found the transition with other class is somewhat difficult, biology was something I discovered to be fun and interesting. My teacher proved to be very passionate about the subject, which made learning much easier. She was always eager to answer any and all questions. Her teaching style really connected with my way of learning you information. I would leave class every day with new knowledge that helped me understand the way the world works. For example, I learned about traits and genes. This topic has been something that is really stuck with me these past couple of years. I look at people in a new way because of it. I can figure out why they have certain traits and physical features, including eye color, hair color, and some characteristics.
Not only has biology helped me to understand humans better, but also animals. I have always been an animal lover. I will be the lady that saves every street animal she can find. A veterinarian is definitely an occupation I have been considering. In this interest can be traced back to my love for biology. While humans, for the most part, have the same inner workings, animals' bone structure differs based off of the class an animal belongs to. Each human and animal has a unique way of being made up, from DNA to genes. Biology teaches us that animals and humans have different in a abilities and structures as well as how to understand them.
My sophomore year has required me to take chemistry and while I struggled, I found elements of biology in my new class. This upcoming year, I will be able to take AP biology, and I'm very excited. Biology has helped me discover more about myself and how I function. This has helped me grow as a student because it has inspired me to work harder and truly dedicate myself to my work.
