I give a hoot about school! by Laurel - January 2019 Scholarship Essay

Hello, my name is Laurel Fischer and I am a college freshman. I consider myself a night owl and if you were to ask my family, they would agree with this. I am definitely not a morning person, although I can make myself get up and get going and be prompt for my morning college classes and I don't skip classes regardless of how tired I am from staying up later the night before.
I consider myself a "night owl" not necessarily just because I prefer staying up later, but mainly because I am not a good sleeper, nor have I ever been (my parents tell me that this goes way back many years!!) and therefore there are many times I will go to bed and toss and turn so I find that sometimes I am just as productive to stay up later and to work on homework and read until I feel tired enough to go to sleep. With having full-time college credit hours, there are times that I don't have time to study a lot during the day, and in addition I also work a part time job around my college classes, so being a "night owl" is often times to my advantage as this is when I can unwind and relax and focus on studying.
My future plans are to attend dental hygiene school and I know that I won't be working a night shift in this job position so I will ,have to learn to adapt and hopefully in time my sleep routine will improve which will allow me to get a good nights rest.
