Limitless by LaShajla - July 2016 Scholarship Essay
Being in an NJROTC program has taught me many leadership skills. My instructors have helped me through many difficult situations which showed me how strong I didn't even know I was able to be. Being a leader in the program has allowed me to realize how much of a passion I have for a leadership role in life. I have always been skeptical about taking a role of leadership due to the responsibilities, but my instructors have showed me to never allow my future to slack because of fear. Thanks to them, I am now the leader I am today and will be offered many opportunities because of my abilities.
I am honored to say that I have learned a life lesson from my NJROTC instructors. They have always been by my side in every decision that I needed help on making. Even if they didn't agree with it, they allowed me to take a leap of faith and have independence in certain areas of my life. In these events, they would teach me the rights and wrongs, but also allowed me to learn from my mistakes. If I was unsuccessful, they would help me get back on my feet and not look at it as a failure, but a lesson. This allowed me to gain respect from many younger cadets and even older/higher level cadets in the program.
Knowing that I am limitless gives me the strength to oversee any obstacle that may come in my way. Big or small, I know I will achieve it and backing down won't be an option. I understand that I can not do everything alone. I humble myself to accept the help of others and to give back no matter their situation. Being once in their position, allows me to teach them to never give up on anything due to the level of intensity.
