Medicine, Cardio, peds, neuro, that's what every person majoring in biology tells you they want to be when they grow up a “doctor” They always tell you its for making the world a better place or to help sick people when in reality it's just the money. But I, have a passion and want for dentistry… and money. Yes, I know it's still a type of medicine but it's always overlooked. Nobody thinks that they are real doctors or they think that they don’t contribute much to society except for beauty standards, or they believe that they don't do anything but take all their money. No one ever talks about the work, dedication, and multiple isms that go along with it that you have to fight and battle every day for your spot to be there. So I want to go and make a difference in the dentistry world by combating racism, classism, and elitism.

I will be attending Fisk University in Nashville, Tennesee in the fall of 2023 as a freshman going into biology. I am applying for the Varsity tutors scholarship for May. Over my high school years, I have had a strong interest in the dentistry field and plan to continue my education in dental health. When I graduate from fisk university I am hoping to continue my education at Meherry Medical to pursue a career in Dentistry.

My career will help specifically low-income families/black families get the dental care they need and deserve. A lot of the time low-income families/black families prioritize their medical health over their dental health so with the help of this scholarship I will be educated on why it’s important to prioritize both and also to take away the financial barrier that a lot of families experience. Knowing that I won’t have to worry about money will give me the confidence to keep going in my education to be able to accomplish all of my goals.

With this scholarship, I will be able to focus on making sure I have good grades and am succeeding in my schoolwork. I will be able to focus on making good healthy relationships with the people around me. I will also have time to become a better critical and creative thinker by surrounding myself with people who are different and who have different opinions. I will grow myself as a person to eventually help me pursue my goals in life.

In conclusion, with this opportunity, I will make sure my education is successful and that I represent this scholarship well. I plan to be a good representative of this scholarship by participating in clubs going out for leadership positions, taking the lead in study groups and group projects, and doing my best to get good grades.
