Junie B. Jones by Lacey - April 2014 Scholarship Essay
Junie B. Jones was a series written by Barbara Park about a girl who faces everyday situations and teaches kids how to handle them. I honestly don’t remember much of what every book was about, but I do remember what they taught me, and I probably wouldn’t act the way I do today if I didn’t read them. Sure I don’t really realize how I act when I’m alone, but when I’m around other people is when I see that I’m one of the few of many, which means I’m not the same as others, it also means it’s hard for me to find friends. The people here are mostly main stream and do things like drugs, alcohol, violence, and sex and they actually look up to stuff like that. I’m not a big fan of any of that, so I tend to be the odd one out and do my own thing by being a shut in who draws and plays video games all day.
If it’s one thing that Junie B. Jones has taught me, it’s to be patient to the ignorant, forgiving to those who wish to make amends, and trust with a hand, not open arms. What I mean by ,‘trust with a hand, not open arms,’ is that you should trust people with the simple things and not get hurt if they break it because it’s common amongst most people break trust when put to a little test. If you openly trust people with all that you have, then you are most likely going to get hurt when you least expect it and probably one of those people who get hurt all the time due to your own actions.
What I’ve also learned is to preserve the good memories, and never forget the bad ones. It’s always good to remember the good things in life, but it’s the bad ones that make you learn lessons and remember why they’re bad in the first place; for if you do not learn history, you will be doomed to repeat it, henceforth, is why we have lessons in life.
