The Key to Ending Procrastination by Kyya - April 2016 Scholarship Essay
Currently I have been in school for a total of 12 years from kindergarten to eleventh grade. It is well known to me now the common endeavors of school, and how to deal with them. As of right now one piece of advice I would like to share with younger students would be not to procrastinate.
I remember nights where I would be up till 2am or even later suffering through a paper, or project that I had waited till the last minute to do. Now that I am older I deeply regret procrastinating mainly, because not only was it stressful, but I also did not get to put in all of the time and effort I would have liked. Being a student that has procrastinated before and having classmates who have also done this it has become recognizable that procrastination leads to sleep deprivation, decreasing grade point averages, as well as agitation, and inconvenience between students, teachers, as well as the parents of the students. Procrastination is a common habit in many kids in today’s time, and can be avoided if you cease the habit at an early age. In order to cease the habit of procrastination all that is necessary is to set a personal due date for yourself that is maybe a day or two before the actual due date; this way you’re able to plot out everything you need to do and finish early without the burden of trying to finish at the last minute. Also time management plays a huge factor, or role in procrastination. It is obligatory to have time management skills, because this is how one is able to avoid procrastination. Instead of doing things like watching TV, or texting your friends, or things that can wait till later, it is important that you work on your assignments, and projects to get them out of the way. Not only does time management help you avoid procrastination, but it also creates a beneficial habit of getting your work done on time without even thinking about it, or stressing over it.
Therefore, it is beneficial and vital that as an younger student you do not procrastinate or make procrastination a habit, but instead make personal due dates, and strive to have notable time management skills so you are not stressed, get the outcome you want with your work, and create a better future for the rest of your years of education.
