Motivation By Death by Kyrstyn - November 2020 Scholarship Essay
Life has a funny way of showing us that we need change. For some people change is frightening, for others change can be motivational. When a drastic change happened in my life, I was saddened, but it quickly became motivation for me to be great. This motivation allowed me too mature enough to graduate high school a year early. With this change in my life being a major aspect of my educational journey, that is what I am most thankful for.
In the early months of 2015, my stepfather and I would conversate about the things in life I may have wanted to accomplish. I spoke very vaguely about possibly wanting to graduate in my junior year of high school. He reassured me that no matter what, he would be right beside me to lend a hand if I needed it. Within months of this conversation, on May 02, 2015, my stepfather passed away. From that day forward, I vowed to myself and him, that I would graduate early and make him proud. Trying to accomplish this was no easy task. At the end of my freshman year, my counselor and I created a plan for me to graduate early. That summer, I took two summer classes towards my graduation. I did this every summer until my last year of high school. Sophomore year, I began to take all honors courses and passed with A's and B's. Junior year was when it started to become slightly more difficult. I had to double my classes, and take an online class at home. On top of all this, I got into a car accident and sustained a concussion a few days before school started. Not only did I have to deal with the work overload, there were teachers who tried to hold me back by making it difficult for me to take exams or quizzes. I pushed through these obstacles, and I graduated high school early with a GPA of 3.1 and changed how students felt about graduating. After seeing me, overcome what was thrown my way, the underclassmen believed that they could do the same thing I did. With this, I am proud of what I have done and what I have become.
Without the obstacles faced through this journey, my educational maturity would not be where it is today. I am thankful for all the changes, motivation and success that has been brought to me over the years.
