What Changes Would I Bring To My School? by Kyra - September 2023 Scholarship Essay
I believe if I could positively change my school, I would choose to have the school encourage students to prepare for SAT or ACT exams. While many colleges are now test-optional when applying, SAT or ACT scores can open up scholarship opportunities and increase the student’s chances of being accepted to colleges.
Currently, my school does not promote SAT, ACT, or PSAT preparations to students. I took my first PSAT in the 8th grade but did not know of the importance. Therefore, I did not put any effort into studying to take any more PSATs afterward. Currently, as a senior, I have received no guidance on how to study or given any type of preparation at school. I’ve only learned of the various opportunities that can be offered for an exceptional score from outside sources. Many of my close friends do not see the significance of taking the tests and don’t have the motivation to take any of them as a result.
While I am aware that not every student will want to take any of these tests, I personally believe that encouraging students to prepare and take it will benefit some students and give them the motivation to take it. I wish that the encouragement could make students aware of the scholarship opportunities that can come with achieving an average or above-average SAT or ACT score. If they are made aware of the positive outcomes, then possibly more students would feel motivated to take PSATs, study for the exams, and take the SAT or ACT in their junior or senior year.
