My Favorite Aspect of My Education by Kylie - November 2015 Scholarship Essay
My Favorite Aspect of My Education
The aspect of education that I am most thankful for is my Current World and Affairs with one of my all-time favorite teachers, Mr. Govert. I’ve never been one to understand history throughout my years of schooling but during my last year of highschool I decided to give it a shot. While being seated in this class for 50 minutes, 5 days a week, I come to realization of real world situations that I would not be attentive to without partaking in this course.
Due to the inconvenience of the class only being a semester long, I know that I will be able to carry out what I learned after high school and apply it to the outside world. In this class, we have covered terrorism, genocide, and people of other countries. We also debated current political issues such as abortion, assisted suicide, legal drinking and driving age, education, immigration, gun control, gay marriage, and the death penalty.
I could not give this class all of its credit without the teachings of Mr. Govert. He opens the eyes of students in a different way. Unlike other teachers, where we sit through lectures and mind-numbing powerpoints, he interacts with us and wants to know how we feel about certain situations. He doesn’t want us to always believe what we hear, he makes us face the cold hard truth about what’s going on in the world.
Out of all my classes, I enjoyed his the most. Even with taking all of my 4 years of high school education, this class will be remembered the most. Mr.Govert is one of those teachers that is capable of changing lives and being remember for a life-time. I’m very thankful for this aspect of my education because without this class I wouldn’t have the realization of politics and issues in the real world.
