The Best You by Kylie - November 2018 Scholarship Essay

It is what you take out of high school that matters most. Of course you will cherish memories for a long time, but how did those mold you to the person you are today. In school, and society in general, we constantly have a habit of trying to please everyone around us. Wether it was the teachers or the students we are all guilty. In this experience I picked up this quote: be the best version of yourself. This phrase has formed who I am today.
To be the best version of yourself you have to stop trying to be someone else which I tried a lot in my years. Constantly I found myself attempting to fit in with groups of people completely different from me. This made me not me. After I realized there is absolutely no reason to form into someone you aren’t it hit me like a rock. My friend groups began to change into people that also loved being themselves and my overall outlook became more positive. In trying to be someone you aren't you typically look at the negatives about yourself. Once you accept you, all of your flaws begin to drift away.
To be the best version of yourself you also have to constantly improve yourself for the better. This has a very gray area. When I say improve I am internally. Being a genuinely nice person and taking cafe of your health are key components. I have read many books on strengthening my kindness and to encourage myself grow. A well balanced diet and fitness also help to release negative toxins inside the brain and body.
Through my life I wish I would have heard this quote earlier. Being the best version of myself has dramatically changed my life. I can focus on myself and being the best me I can be. For my senior quote I would easily choose: be the best version of yourself.
