The class that changed the world. by kyleah - October 2016 Scholarship Essay
If the roles were reversed, then I would teach environmental science. Environmental Science, as stated by Wikipedia, is “an interdisciplinary academic field that integrates physical, biological and information sciences to the study of the environment, and the solution of environmental problems."
Environmental science gives students the chance to save the world and to enhance it for the better. Teaching this subject would not only make a difference in student's lives, but it would make a difference for everyone around the world. Studies show that if Antarctica keeps melting the way it is now, then sea level will rise by six feet before the end of the century. This is enough water to cover up the southern part of Florida and two thirds of New York. Yes, we do have time to make changes, but global warming is still being looked at as a minor issue. Hopefully, by teaching this class, I would be able to make more of a difference in the world even if it is only by 5%.
Another reason why I would want to teach environmental science because it explains some of the earth’s craziest weather going as far as the Grand Canyon to the Deserts of Egypt and even the Salem Witch Trials. By studying these things, we could also learn how not to make the same mistakes again and to make the earth a better place to live on for everyone.
Environmental Science can change the world for the better so who wouldn’t want to teach a class that could prolong our existence on the planet we call home?
