URRRRRG……Be on time for school, pick up your friends that do not have a ride and take them to school, pay attention in class, get good grades, go to Football practice then eat then do your homework then repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat…..The pressure and asphyxiation of being a leader has so many challenges, sacrifices and pain. All of my life no matter where I have been I have always been task with the roll of someone that people can look to when they are in a tunnel of darkness and need guidance out of it. For me being an eminent leader was a task that I had to develop overtime by observing other great leaders, my Father, mentors and coaches. I find that one of the key factors was surrounding myself with positive people who encourage me and adjusted my behavior when needed. I am a person that people have learned to depend on and trust to lead them in the right direction when they are going the wrong way or when they need supportive guidance.
As one of the Captain of Catholic Memorial’s Varsity Football Team, which is the number one football team in the state of Massachusetts, I take my leadership role as one of extreme importance. Many times on the football play, I have made plays that warrant us to score a game winning touchdown, it was by far the plays that I called that cause us to not progress in a particular quarter that I have learned from the most. It is very difficult during a game not to dwell on the impact of a misguided play but as a leader that it what you have to do to move on to the next play and complete the task of winning the football game. One of the most humbling thing that helps me to be a leader is to take and be accountable for all of my actions and the fact that you also have to fix your mistakes by apologizing for your wrongdoing. This is essential to becoming someone that people can trust in a commanding role.
For every leader there is someone that guided, showed and help them to be who he or she is today, for me that person will always be my Father. My Father is someone with great patience, faith, integrity, dependability , inspirational and accomplishments. He is someone that is wise and bestows an endless amount of wisdom thru out my life and athletic career. He is at every practice, game and event. One of his favorite quotes is to me is “be the head and not the tail”, I have live by this philosophy to get things accomplish on and off the football field, in and out of the classroom and in life.
I am a man of faith that praises God day in and day
