Reveal the Truth by Kyla - February 2015 Scholarship Essay

"Separate but not equal" is a critical evaluation of the struggle, dream and war of racial segregation. This piece of literature considers real life situations, fields of wrong doing, art, “policies", exhibitions, and more. "Separate but not equal" focuses on the facts which is what I believe all high school students should start meditating on instead of false intake.

Should not every student, period, be aware of the truths and FACTS of the world we inhabit? Why keep blinding our students from real life and feeding them lies better known as “fiction”? Speaking from the point of view as a fellow student, I personally want to know legitimate information and not random thoughts from another human being which is what really makes “Separate but not equal” so outstanding.

Above all, this piece makes a strong, bold statement. The most important element of "Separate but not equal" is that it is a commentary and true, not merely just facts you can read anywhere, you can feel the emotion through the way Jim Haskins developed his piece. It allows you to enter into the text and have a discussion within yourself with the work’s creator. You can clearly see where you find the work deficient or not within its educational points, judgments and organization.
