The Journey of Education by Kyah - June 2023 Scholarship Essay
To imagine myself ten years in the future, I must first look at my past. I have always loved school, even when I struggled learning to spell. I slowly but surely conquered each skill I set my mind to – from reading and spelling, to complex algebra and geometry. This hard work mattered little besides the thrilling “A” on the report card. This changed three years ago when I entered high school though. Suddenly what I did in school mattered so much more, and the school work progressively became more challenging. I learned what it felt like to truly struggle in learning, but I found coping mechanisms that helped.
Sophomore year Biology was a hurdle that took me coming into school almost every morning for thirty minutes before my classes started, and having in-depth tutoring over everything we learnt the previous day in class. Before every test I would spend my whole lunch and hours after school in study groups, ensuring I knew the information forwards and backwards. Day-by-day I persevered and finally completed the class. This gave me finally tuned skills in how to study in ways that help me remember the information. More importantly however, it taught me what it was like to feel truly accomplished after a class, it taught me to truly love learning and want to pursue it.
Where do I see myself in ten years? I see myself pursuing knowledge even after I complete nursing school and become an adult, when I start a career that will last me my whole life. I see myself having the skills to cope with any hiccups I might face, and learning from them. I hope to grow my joy in finding knowledge and stretch it to see where the limits are in my growth. Though I may have struggled with school in my past, and know I will in my future, I know any education I pursue will only help me in my journey.
