Tenacity by Krystal - September 2014 Scholarship Essay
The quality which I believe is necessary for success in college is tenacity. To me, tenacity is a combination of drive, dedication, and stubbornness. I find this quality vital, as it has helped me many times throughout my college career to remain focused on what really matters and be motivated to overcome challenges.
This quality provides drive in that it serves as a motivating force, pulling you towards your goal. It’s what puts some urgency in your step, provides a sense of purpose in your work, and the gives you the willingness to go a little (or a lot) farther than is necessary. Tenacity keeps your goal ever present in your mind, urging you to grab it.
I think tenacity causes dedication because it’s a rather addictive quality. When you’re tenacious about something you don’t ever want to let it go; forgetting it would be like trying to wrestle a piece of meat from a wolves’ mouth. The energy from your attitude produces a sort of magnetism that doesn't allow you to abandon your goals or get distracted; you’ll do whatever it takes to fulfill them.
Lastly, this quality leads to stubbornness in that once you get going, your momentum won’t let you stop; even on tough days when your end goals aren't enough to keep you going, the strength of will tenacity imparts will push you onward, like being caught in a strong current, until you find your motivation again.
