Elective by krystal - June 2018 Scholarship Essay
Most people will say that Math is not important, or do not want to do it. Math can be hard and frustrating to understand, yet math is the foundation to almost everything in our society today.
I find it important to take a math based elective if you want to further your math knowledge. My senior year I took it upon myself to take Trigonometry even though many of my classmates and some staff, advised me to make my senior year easy and not take it. I decided to take it anyways. I struggled in the beginning to understand and develop the solutions to the problems given; so i decided to stay after and get extra help.
Trigonometry and other math branches that I have studied, have helped me create a good foundation of math skills and use them in my daily life. When you understand and comprehend equations in a classroom, you can apply them to your everyday life for things such as, measuring, counting money, saving money, paying bills, doing your taxes, etc.
I believe that a branch of math should be required of all four years regardless if your credit is met. If a student takes up an additional form of math, he or she may succeed even more in life with that extra knowledge and the growth they may get from it.
As a child, I definitely struggled with math but as I practiced and noticed that it is used all over the world and in my life I grew a love for wanting to know more about it. Math is the same in every country, that is how you can tell how important it is.
