A New Chapter by Kristina - March 2019 Scholarship Essay
For some, high school can be frightening and overwhelming. Cliques and the overflow of work may make it seem like it would be impossible to handle for four years. Despite these thoughts, it is possible to thrive in high school and to come out a new and better person. There will be challenges you have to face like the struggle of trying to fit in and also be academically successful. This trial alone may alter your outlook on the rest of your life. However, through determination and the assurance of who you are, high school can greatly impact you in a positive way.
To get through all four years, you must always have a determination and drive to be the best you can be. Whether that’s in the classroom, in your favorite club, or on your sports team, having motivation will get you places you never thought you could go. With great success can also come great pride, which is not the most efficient quality to have. Having too much pride can change who you are in a negative way, and it won’t guide you down the right path. Though, I’m not saying all pride is bad. It is good to be proud of who you are and what you do, but just don’t let all the attention go to your head. If you stick to what you believe in and what you stand for, all the cliques won’t seem to bother you. Massive amounts of work and responsibilities won’t appear to be so massive anymore. You will be less burdened with the confounding ways of high school if you think less about how it would be terrible, and more about how much you can grow from it.
High school is a learning experience and a journey, one that we must all take. Leaving your mark on people’s lives and the community is the best way to get through this milestone in your life. The way to do that is to remember who you are and why you do it. The only way to get what you want in this world is to walk the path you choose, not the path society chooses for you. The greatest, most successful people in the world followed their heart and did not let outsiders change them into believing something else. To be successful, however, you must be open to new ideas and express humility. Start now to be teachable but strong-minded. Independent, but also inclusive. Then, you will begin to understand the importance of high school.
