Internal Inspirations by KRISTIAN - November 2013 Scholarship Essay
Possibly the most valuable lesson I've learned throughout my high school career is to consistently persevere. I will freely admit that there were many instances when I wasn't sure where I was going, if
whether my staying up until two in the morning to finish a 5,000 word research paper on President Lincoln would even count for something later on, but I kept moving. In the end, I received an A on that paper. Similarly, I've sometimes felt like a less-than-stellar math student, but I refused to let numbers defeat me. As a result, I breathed a sigh of relief when I passed my Trigonometry class. This sense of hard work has even extended beyond my high school curriculum.
When I decided to give back to my community, all I wanted was to be a helping hand. One year later, I found myself accepting the Youth Volunteer Award, chosen out of all the young volunteers in my state. I
understood early on, through my academic career, that a good attitude and hard work give a desirable result.
Through my learning experience, I have realized that when you succeed, no one can take that confidence away from you. A certificate or degree can fade over time, but the sense of accomplishment stays. I've also
realized that the highest amount of inspiration I can find is within myself. With all those hours of missed sleep, deadlines, and reaping the ultimate reward, there's only one thing left to say: Bring on college.
