Being a Leader to Obtain Success by Kristen - March 2015 Scholarship Essay

Leadership skills are necessary for college success. What I have learned by being in college is that I have to take initiative in order to accomplish my goals. One with leadership qualities has the ability to continue to keep going, even when things get hard. They have the ability to understand that things will not always go smoothly, but having the drive to make things happen for them. For most of my school career, things were easy and accessible. Once I entered college, I quickly realized that whatever decision was made, would have an effect on my life. I have to do more than just show up for class and do the assignments. What I do outside of the classroom and the connections that I make will help me to achieve my goals. The structure and tools in class will still be provided, but it is up to me to take what I have learned and make great use with it.

Like many students, I am balancing working, school, bills, and somewhat of a social life. There have been times where it has become overwhelming and stressful, and I tend to doubt myself. However, it does not stop me from continue to fight for what I want and deserve. Throughout the years, my leadership skills have progress and will continue to help me build my success.
