Thankful for the challenge by Kristen - November 2016 Scholarship Essay
Since my young adulthood, I’ve always held an interest in the medical field. Even as a young child, I would “play doctor” and pretend to “care for my patients.” This culminated into a strong desire to become a nurse. However, as I became older I learned that going to college is very expensive and since I never grew up with a savings of any kind or had parents that attended college, for the next seven years after my high school graduation I simply accepted the fact that I’d likely never get a higher education.
Now, seven years have passed and I’ve grown tired of stagnating at my work level. Over this course of time I have spent many days dreaming about doing what I want to do the most. While the amount of time that has passed could be claimed as wasted by other people, I personally am grateful that I have spent this time to allow me to figure out what I ultimately want to do for a career.
I know I will be thankful for the challenges that come my way through attending college to pursue nursing. With every hurdle I encounter, I know I will be more prepared to do a great job and work even harder.
Becoming a nurse is a challenge that I am more than ready to take on now. I’m determined to get into the field and do my best at being a great nurse. Caring for patients and knowing that I’m making a difference will give me the life fulfillment I need.
