Hope by Krista - June 2013 Scholarship Essay

“One must not brood on the past one must hope for the future.”- Jean Plaidy. When being asked what college means for me this quote along with many other things came to mind. College will further my education to be more successful while doing something I love, and being financially stable. But pondering on the question much longer I started to think of Hope. College for me means hope for the future.
One morning, I turned on the news and saw about the Boston marathon bombing. I could only imagine what could be going through the families of those victims. And the perfect gift to those families that could never be physically wrapped is hope. A longing positive dream for the future same with the Oklahoma tornado victims, Sandy Hook Elementary School parents, and anyone who feels distress for their future.
Since my mother never went to college, I always thought of the more successful  life she would have had if she did. I hope that one day when I graduate college and start a family of my own that I will bring more hope to my children letting them know that there is a more successful life through college and they never have to worry about anything.
One other thing about Jean Plaidy’s quote is that she says not to brood in the past. A life without college to me means that I will forever linger in the mistakes of past which is not very hopeful. Myself not taking the opportunity to go to college is a big mistake that I will never forgive myself for.
Lastly, college for me means a way for me to show my friends, family, and everyone else that hope for the future exist. I will not brood in the past but with college an option for me, there is hope for the future.
