My purpose by kris - June 2020 Scholarship Essay

Having a 9-5 job takes up the majority of the day, it's the same amount of time as the recommended amount of sleep you should have every day, that is 2/3 of your day gone, so what do you do with the extra 8 hours you have? I believe that majority of people think they are stuck at a dead-end job and think they can't get any better in life, but if we look at the people who are the most creative, richest, influential people in the world, you'll notice the effort they put in, and people always suspect that the rich just got lucky. One of my favorite quotes was from Robert Kiyosaki who is a famous entrepreneur who has written Rich Dad, Poor Dad. His quote is '“You’re only poor if you give up. The most important thing is that you did something. Most people only talk and dream of getting rich. You’ve done something.” This quote alone changed my whole outlook and made me want to live a life where I wasn't dreaming of a life of wonder but living in it.

As I'm not necessarily focused on one career field I will say that I am interested to use all the skills I learn to be as successful as I can to be able to make a change in my career field. The classes I am taking are a mixture of web development and marketing, and I would also want to dabble in classes in business. The reason why is because I want to get into a business called e-commerce. The best way to think about e-commerce is Amazon, where people buy the products for a certain price, the supplier sends the product to the customer, and everyone gets what they want. It's an easy concept to understand and it may sound easy, but as you get deeper into the subject, you'll find out it's a lot harder then people may think. As I started my research I realized that I just want to be self-employed, and be able to be an entrepreneur thus why I say that there isn't a career field.

I always considered myself as a hardworking person especially when I'm passionate about something. Everything I did was always one step above everyone because I just strive to be recognized for something whether it's from my grades, my personality, my fitness, etc. The one thing I strive more though is to be influential to others and that's what I work on every single day. I strive to get better in the world of e-commerce, to get better at marketing, to make my website as optimal as I can make it, to be a really good boss, etc. I want to do as much as I can now, so later I can just sit back and relax and teach others to do the same.

The things I'm doing to achieve this goal is fairly simple but a lot of hard work. I am planning on attending college but only to get the skills set I need, because I know if this career doesn't work out for me, I can always go back and try again, there's nothing wrong with failure. I also have brought courses outside of college to be mentored from people inside the e-commerce world to get some insight into how things are( I have spent around 1000 dollars so far trying to get as much information I can). I have also been working fulltime this summer as a window washer for 15 dollars an hour.

How I hope to bring change into my career path is to make people realize that they aren't stuck in life. I want to make it easy for others to get out of the mindset that they have no time to do what they want to do! A lot of people can invest in themselves through stocks, through business, through streaming on twitch, you can make money from doing anything you set your mind to! Yes, it'll be hard but that's what I hope I can do to bring change to my intended career field. I want to make it easy so others can follow my same footsteps and be influenced by me.
