Advice for incoming Freshman class. by Korah - November 2014 Scholarship Essay

Listen up Freshmen! You only have 4 years to set yourself up for college. My advice is to start now, because it’s going to go by quick.

Get a planner and learn to use it for everything from classes, games, meetings and homework. Always have a stack of notecards for studying, take notes, ask questions, turn in your homework right away for full credit, and but an ACT preparedness book.

Go see the counselor and get a list of required classes to graduate. Make a plan to map out the classes you need to take. Every grade will be applied to your GPA so make sure you have good grades. Don’t forget to stay involved in community or school events so you build your network of friends, teachers and staff.

The first year in High School will be a distraction for your teenage fun years, but stay focused and stay discipline to your studies. If you play sports, communicate with your teacher and classmates to keep updated on homework assignments and study groups.

Besides having good grades you will need to build up a resume for volunteer services and community service. As a student, you always want to be respectful to your classmates, teachers, principal and staff. They will be the ones who will be writing your recommendation letters and recommending you for awards.

You will find time to enjoy yourself but just remember to stay focused. Keep your eye on the prize.
