Perfect 10 by Kodie - July 2022 Scholarship Essay

There will be many changes in education over the next ten years and I hope we can achieve the Perfect 10, as that is the title of my essay. With that in mind, there are past changes that have affected the current state of our education system. For instance, when my parents were in school "Driver's Education", "Learn how to swim", "How to do basic taxes" and "A tour of the funeral home", were all activities that each student attending school had the opportunity in which to participate. Today, none of those are even offered at Fredericktown Local Schools. These were priceless opportunities that have been lost within the school system.

The Perfect 10 in the next ten years can be achieved, and though the ten reasons may change, there is still an opportunity to improve our education system and reach the highest potential. The number one way in which education will change is in how one learns. While some students learn by reading, writing, or visually others may learn through hands-on tactics. Meeting the needs of each student will be a challenge for teachers and administrators alike. It may be more beneficial for some students to learn in small groups while others learn better individually. Completing tasks for some students may come easy, and for others, it may be a challenge.

In ten years there will be fewer brick and mortar buildings in which students learn. Although there is a rise in charter schools and homeschooling there is also a large number of students using the online option. This can also lead to more students learning at home without a parent or guardian present.

Mobile and eLearning will be commonplace even more so than it is now. Digital devices will be handed to our kindergartners. Students will carry around electronics more so than they will notebooks and pencils.

Technology will continue to be the driving force in how one purchases school supplies, groceries, and household items, as well as how students will be educated. Research opportunities are and will remain at our fingertips by using our handheld phones and/or computers.

Parents, students, teachers, and school staff will communicate via mobile devices through text, email, social media, video conferencing, or phone calls and much less of face to face interaction. Communication is important, but time is of the essence and technological communication may be more commonplace.

Schools are suffering more on a political level at the chance of being split between church and state, with many church groups wanting to take a more religious route. Another change some schools are making is allowing students to take time during school hours and learn Christian principles.

Within our school buildings, public leaders are trying to please some students by making them "feel more comfortable" rather than focusing on the safety of the students. This may be a growing educational distraction in future years.

Another way school education may change is in the way students are transported or not transported to the building. With the online learning and homeschooling options, buses and bus drivers may not be needed. Although students are still being educated, they may not be in the actual building.

The ninth way the education system may change in the next ten years is by the STEM science technology engineering and math concept will be commonplace. Although it has made a large amount of progress over the last ten years, technology is ever changing and education systems will need to rapidly be able to keep up with the demand.

Lastly, due to history repeating itself higher and secondary education may be in less demand while schools tend to focus more on trade careers and the growth of career centers may surpass the demand for high school education.

There will be many changes in education over the next ten years and I hope we can achieve the Perfect 10, as that is the title of my essay.
