All Students Please Submit Final Decisions on Intended Study Abroad Program by Kishan - March 2016 Scholarship Essay

Albert Einstein, the renowned physicist, once claimed, “The only source of knowledge is experience”. Such an experience away from home can invigorate a new perspective and aspiration to discover what the world has to offer. Through requiring college students to study abroad, they can acquire new knowledge upon immersing themselves in an unknown environment. Thus, this seemingly daunting experience can truly become beneficial and create a brighter legacy of intuitive leaders.

The world itself is becoming more and more diverse every single day. With such a diverse number of people, our own students can become acknowledged of the different customs, traditions, and cultures to have a deeper understanding of people. This can be useful for any career, whether it’s taking a care of a patient, trying to resolve a diplomatic issue, or even negotiating a business deal. New people are embarking upon journeys to different parts of the world in pursuit of opportunity and a chance to reinvigorate their lives. In this manner, college students can also pursue educational opportunities when studying abroad. Students can acquire a deeper intuition in his/her own field of choice in learning a side or way they’ve never been exposed to at home. For instance, a medical student may discover an alternative treatment for certain diseases, or attain different perspective on how to handle patients with a specific illness. With such a diverse number of people in our today, our own students can become acknowledged of the different customs, traditions, and cultures to have a deeper understanding of people. This can be useful for any career, whether it’s taking a care of a patient, trying to resolve a diplomatic issue, or even negotiating a business deal.

With globalization becoming a dominant force in our world today, travel and experience abroad is seen as necessary. Numerous countries around the world engage in this process of interaction for their own advancement where countries can advance with the help of each other. In traveling abroad, students can be a part of this globalization and learn to the fullest extent how large a role it plays in society. Rather than simply learn of its effects from a lecture, the experience of globalization’s impact can truly alter a student’s perspective on taking upon an initiative to benefit the world apart from themselves. This could allow our students to “take a look at the bigger picture”, and contemplate how their actions could impact the world. But this could even spark broader innovation as students may take risks to take their career to a broader level upon attaining this new perspective. For instance, one with a career in environmental engineering in mind can consider the broad use of clean energy around the world with different areas using different sources. Thus, students are able to fully understand globalization and possibly focus their own careers around it.

One may argue that the cost of studying abroad is too high, and college students would never be able to repay their student loans with their expenses piling up from such a venture. Granted, the trip to study abroad can be quite expensive. But this opportunity to study abroad can be seen as an investment that is sure to pay off well in the future of one’s career. Such an experience in a different environment can possibly open more doors of opportunity for them. One could possibly pursue his/her career within that specific country by working under a certain business or establishment. Since college students lack experience as a qualification on their resume for certain positions, studying abroad can provide some form of experience in the real world for them. Even on a personal level, studying abroad would allow the student to gain more self-confidence. Students today are immersed in a competitive world with brighter and motivated students. But by studying abroad one can become even more rounded upon having a different experience with all of its challenges and educational opportunities. Thus, studying abroad should not be considered a burden for its expenses and hardship, but be considered a great opportunity full of reward.

The opportunity to study abroad may only come once in a lifetime and should not be passed up by anyone. One is able to grasp a deeper sense of how other parts of the world function and how the world functions as a whole. Through such an experience, college students can also progress further in their future careers while opening more windows of opportunity for them and invoking more risks to be taken. Thus, studying abroad should be required by colleges as it creates a legacy of leaders with a form knowledge that cannot be acquired by any other means.
