Mrs. Wright by Kinley - March 2023 Scholarship Essay
What exactly is a teacher? A teacher according to Oxford Dictionary is “a person who teaches, especially in a school”. That might be the definition of a teacher, but a good teacher is something way more meaningful than that. An effective teacher. A caring teacher. A teacher that makes you feel special in a class full of 20+ students. These are the educators that put an impact on their students. This is Mrs. Amanda Wright.
Mrs. Wright is a business/marketing teacher at Barren County High School. Not only have I been a student of hers and seen the teacher side of Mrs. Wright, but I have also known her outside of the classroom for many years now. From her determination to make sure every single one of her students feels welcome in her class to make teaching something more than just reading out of a textbook, I have always strived to be more like Mrs. Wright. Walking into her class, every single student gets a “hey, how are you” and a bright smile. If she ever has a dull day, I can speak for anyone around her, it wouldn't be noticeable. Mrs. Wright puts her students first, above her own personal problems. She cares about not only our education but how we are feeling each and every day.
Mrs. Wright is a remarkable teacher, yes. But she also takes professional pictures for fun. Not only for the school but for her family as well. “Why is this relevant?”, you may ask. I have always had a love for photography. Now, this passion for taking pictures may have started since I was young, but looking at other photographers' work just amplifies my craving for photography. This includes Mrs. Wright and her common interest with taking pictures. She has even let me take her camera across the school campus to take pictures. Fun fact, this camera actually inspired me to get a similar one for my birthday this past November and I love it.
I was not always planning to go to college. Technically photography does not need it. Very bold to admit on a college scholarship essay, I know. But taking Mrs. Wrights business class and many others have made me realize that running a business, big or small, is not easy. It takes dedication and hard work to be successful in anything you do. Therefore, with the help of Mrs. Wright, I have decided to attend college to get a business degree to better understand what a business needs to consist of to be successful. Although her class has taught me a lot about the behind the scenes of a business, I know I still have a lot to learn.
I would love to win this scholarship to help me pay to get to my dream industry. 500 words was not enough to go on about everything Mrs. Wright has done for me but thank you for taking the time to read what I could fit in.
