Importance of Education by Kimberly - April 2015 Scholarship Essay

Varsity Tutors College Scholarship Essay 2015

The purpose of education is to improve common knowledge and human capital in order to succeed in life. Most jobs today require a high school and/or college degree. Education is one of the most important things to set a foundation for your life.

With education, individuals are able to obtain skills necessary for life and work. Communication skills, problem solving skills, and many more necessary for operating in the real world. For instance, a man who was a high school dropout is looking for a job. The only jobs that would be available to him would perhaps be jobs of no experience necessary. There would be no high paying jobs such as auto mechanic work, electrician, contractor, etc. You must have a license in order to do the jobs at a specific level of complex workmanship. Even with every skill necessary to perform the job, he falls short. This man does not have any proof of skills, nothing to show for his word when he applies for an auto mechanic job such as for example KIA. On the opposite side of the spectrum, there is a man with Masters Degrees in Auto Mechanics and Electrical Engineering. When he goes to apply for the job, he is well mannered and prepared for the interviews and to customers, he knows his stuff and has proof of it. By going to school, he was able to gain necessary social skills, as well as knowing the incentive of hard work. Ask yourself, who has the better chance of getting a job? Then ask, what does education really do for you besides getting you a job?

My answer is education helps give you everything by providing the knowledge and skills necessary to perform the job well and to persevere with what you learn not only behind the books and at the podium, but within the life and experience you gain altogether. With the job you can support your family. You can support yourself. You can have a roof over your head. You can help your kids have a good education. You can give a future to them. You can be their hero. My father, for example, is my hero. He graduated high school but didn't necessarily go to college. He worked his way up in the job. Learning the ropes, learning everything he could, and now he is the operations manager. This position was literally created for him. With his incredibly high IQ, and exponential problem solving methods, as well as his great leadership and drive; he was able to succeed and led the branch to be one of the best ones in the nation. The issue was he wished he had gone to college to earn a degree to do what he really wanted, not let the job choose him. He pushes us to work hard and go to college to have a career we want and end up making what he's making without having to wait 10 years in the making. Education is important to not only you, but to everyone and everything around you.
