The Importance of Teachers by Kimberly - July 2016 Scholarship Essay

During my junior year of high school, I learned the hard way of what it meant to succeed in high school. I've had teachers come and go all of my life, but this one stayed. He taught me something I could always remember and rely on in my future years of schooling, and that is myself.
He was not one of the teachers that taught the core curriculum of high school. Instead, he was my band teacher and I've been one of his students for the past 3 years. He taught me that life will get rough and will always throw you obstacles but you have to continuously get up after you fall or else you are not progressing in life. I learned that lesson the hard way because I let my grades down in my second semester and wanted to stop taking honors/AP courses so that my transcript would not look worse than it already did. But from his lesson, I learned that it's not worth it to give up everything I've worked for ever since I've been in school. Everything my family sacrificed for my education was not worth backing out of the race. I proved to myself that I could do anything I set n mind to and just because I encounter a rough spot in life does not mean that I give up. I instead perservere and overcome the obstacles that will continue to be throw in my way.
I could never thank my teacher enough for teaching me this lesson. I continue to look forward to him and all teachers that help guide students lives.
